Midsummer, Jussi, Mittumari, Midsummer. A dear child has many names. Midsummer is always celebrated on the longest day of the year, but Midsummer is best remembered for the infamous weather. You have been allowed to pack woolen pants and top coats in your bag rather than swimsuits and warm dresses. This year, however, the situation is different because this wonderful midsummer festival can be celebrated in hot weather! We Dotsi people are going to at least take all the joy out of it. The best way to enjoy the heat is in the bosom of nature, and that's why Dots' Midsummer is being celebrated this year in cottage landscapes.

Good food, better mood and better together than alone. With these principles, we are going to celebrate Midsummer in the summer of 2020. The main purpose is to relax and recharge the batteries - with good food, drink and company.

The best midsummer meals can definitely be found at the market. Fresh ingredients combined with good spices is the secret of successful cottage food! Everyone has certainly found their favorite grilled food, but variety is refreshing! We want to share a couple of "not so traditional" tips for the midsummer dinner table.

1. Larb Gai

Spicy Thai food brings a wonderful change to traditional grilled food. Larb gai is a Thai minced meat salad that is perfect as a light snack or as an appetizer for dinner. It's super-easy to prepare and the world of flavors is like straight from the streets of Thailand.

The pictures show our own version of the soppa365 recipe. You can find the original instructions here: https://www.soppa365.fi/reseptit/liha-arjen-nopeat-juhli-ja-nauti-pastat-ja-risotot/thaimaalainen-jauhelihasalaatti-larb-gai

2. Fresh potato salad

Savory Grilliruoka is nice to pair with a slightly freer side dish. We tried Metti Forssel's potato salad and fell in love with it right away! In the pictures, the "cottage version" of Met's beautiful instruction, which really took the tongue away. No midsummer is complete without good company, good food, or good drink! Even the people of Dotsi throw themselves free on Midsummer and take one, if not another, glass of wine. However, the best drinks are made with ADD:WISE lemonade. Dots' favorite summer drink has already been featured on the blog, but nothing beats it. All you need is ADD:WISE lemonade (2/3) and a bottle of sparkling wine (1/3). You can emphasize the world of flavors by adding a couple of mint leaves as decoration. YUM!

The best non-alcoholic drink is made with ADD:WISE rhubarb-vanilla lemonade. Pour approx. 2/3 lemonade and approx. 1/3 mineral water into the glass. This sweet and tasty mocktail is wonderful to enjoy, for example, on top of a sauna on the cottage pier.

Dots Midsummer does not include exact schedules or special plans. We just act according to the feeling. We may sleep and linger in bed longer than usual, and even enjoying our morning coffee may stretch until noon. The only reasonable activity of the day may be doing crossword puzzles, and evening saunas may stretch until around midnight. The most important thing is to remember to breathe and do exactly what you feel at that moment!

The little ones in the family might get tired of hitting :)

With the batteries charged, it's good to return to everyday routines richer than Midsummer.

Dots wishes you a wonderful and magical Midsummer!
