This slogan fits perfectly to describe the way of thinking of our Dotsi people from a long time ago. Already years ago, we were looking for ethically and ecologically produced brands in our selections, which was not easy in those days. There were fashion brands or alternatively ecological brands, some put fashion and style first and others put ecology and ethics first...
At Dots, we wanted both! Today, there are great brands in the world that know how to combine all the elements that are important to us. Design, quality, ethics and ecology. In recent years, we have been able to select a large number of these wonderful responsible brands whose design and quality make us sigh with delight.
Last week, we introduced you to the first of this autumn's novelties, JUST FEMALE. Now it's your turn – RESIDUS . This Scandinavian brand from a neighboring country delighted us with its responsible operation and innovative thinking!
Residus is a Swedish brand founded in 2016, whose vision is very strongly based on responsibility and recycling culture. Behind the brand is a female energetic duo - founder Elin Mohlander and designer Evalena Jonsson. The women share a common passion for ethical, responsible and recyclable fashion. The number one goal of Residus is to make beautiful and long-lasting clothes that have as little burden as possible on the earth, both people and the environment. Mohlander also strongly believes in transparency and sees it as the future of fashion. In connection with that, Residus has managed to bring something really great to the market this fall! We will tell you more about it at the end of the text.
At the beginning of Residus, the design work was mainly based on different dresses, but they have later expanded their selection, e.g. for pantsuits and various tops. These are now available at Dots! <3 Residus' style could be described as very Scandinavian and restrained. By subdued, we mean classic models and calm color worlds. In this way, it has been possible to create a very uniform design that can be easily changed from one season to another. Perfect slow fashion! Designer women say that dresses are still the main focus of the collections, but they strive to expand their selection according to customers' wishes. However, the women emphasize that everything that is done at Residus is done in the interests of both the environment and the brand, and not just one or the other. There is no compromise on that . Because of this, the production of all kinds of products is not in accordance with the values of Residus, and therefore possible.

Residus specifically aims to fight against the mass production of fashion, and they bring out alarming facts about the industry on their website. Here are a few selections from them. The so-called fast fashion manufacturers bring to the market about 52 minimal lists per year. This means a new collection for every week of the year. These collections are designed to be almost disposable, that is, they are produced cheaply and quickly. Because of this, we have drifted into a situation where the average consumer buys 400% more clothes now than 20 years ago . Approximately 100 billion pieces of clothing are produced per year . These numbers are staggering... Not to mention how much harmful toxins and other emissions are leaking into nature as a result of all this. Huhhuh . Residus strives to slow down this fast fashion culture with its own activities. They only offer four collections a year and use only high-quality and responsible materials.
The materials that Residus uses for the most part are surplus from clothing factories and other manufacturers. In addition, due to the limited availability of surplus material, they use GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OEKO-TEX (Sustainable Textile Production) certified materials. These certificates guarantee an environmentally friendly and ethical material manufacturing process. Examples of these materials are e.g. ecovero, tencel, FSC fiber and linen.

This all sounds great and exactly in line with our values, but the reason why Residus absolutely HAD to get to Dots was this: Residus' entire 2020 fall collection product supply chains are 100% traceable! Yes, you read that right, 100% traceable. Residus has printed a QR code on the washcloth of each of its products, where they can be easily scanned, whether the product was purchased new or used. After scanning the code with your smartphone, a new page will open for you, where you can see the entire supply chain of the product, from dyeing to packaging! GREAT!
Now just grab your smartphone and go on a research trip to Dots! :)
Product supply chains are often a hidden secret in the fashion world and it is challenging to achieve complete transparency, but Residus has done it. A 100% transparent supply chain enables humane conditions for all people working in the field and minimal harm to the environment. It also provides confidence in the words and image of the brand. We at Dots hope that this example of Residus will lead to a change of attitude covering the entire industry!

What can we expect next from young Residus? Certainly no matter what.
They constantly invest in ethical and innovative design, and strive to be pioneers of responsible fashion. One great news is that they aim to launch completely carbon-neutral products in the spring of 2021. At least we can't wait!
